What is Periodic Driver CPC?

Periodic Driver CPC is the term given to the training that a driver, who holds a vocational licence, must attend in order to refresh their knowledge in the key areas of the transport industry.

The abbreviation CPC stands for Certificate of Professional Competency and was designed in order to standardise the quality of professional driving across the EU.

In order to obtain a Driver CPC qualification card a driver must attend 35 hours of accredited training. This is typically done in 7-hour sessions but can be split into 2, 3.5-hour sessions providing the second session is completed within 24 hours of the first ending.

Once a driver has completed 35 hours of accredited training, they are issued with a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and this is valid for 5 years. The expiration date is shown on the reverse of the card. The driver must then complete the next set of 35 hours training before the expiration date on the card in order to maintain their qualification.

Our Periodic CPC courses are JAUPT approved. JAUPT (Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training) manage the application process and quality assurance programme of centres and courses for periodic training.

What is a remote course?

Since 2020 JAUPT have allowed for DCPC courses to be conducted online, meaning a candidate can attend a course remotely using an online video broadcasting platform.

The platform that we use is ‘Zoom’ and is incredibly user friendly. You can download Zoom to any Windows, iOS or Android device that you wish and once downloaded you do not need to create an account.

You will be sent a link to your course the day before you are due to attend and all you need to do is click on the link when the session is open on the morning of your course and you will join with your instructor and other candidates.

Please note in order to attend you must have a working camera and microphone on the device you choose to use.

All DCPC courses run 08.00 – 16.00 and you must be present for the duration of the course in order to gain the 7 hours of training.
